Who said you can’t have your cocktail and eat it too? This summer step up your patio game by serving your favourite spirits in the form of alcohol soaked macerated fruit that is way better than your grandma’s soaked fruit Christmas cakes. Think Tequila soaked watermelon wedges are a bit too reminiscent of your university days? (We didn’t think so either!) But in case you’re craving something different, Urban Liquor has cultivated alcohol soaked fruit fit for the casual BBQ all the way to your next upscale soiree.

The Basics

Before we send you off to the farmers market and orchard fruit stands, here are some the basic principles of creating alcoholic fruits. We recommend planning the below alcohol soaked fruit recipes a minimum of one hour ahead of serving and up to one day prior (to avoid the fruits structural composition from breaking down). Time allowances are dependent upon the density of the fruit, typically soft fruit taking as little as one hour, and harder to more than eight hours. If you are seeking to go beyond alcohol soaked fruit and want to achieve fruit infused liquor for future cocktails, extraction in sealed containers is encouraged anywhere from two to eight weeks. We encourage pairing the type of alcohol with what naturally pairs well with the fruit by taking inspiration from classic cocktails, specifically rum with tropical fruits, tequila with water based fruit, and flavoured vodka with berries. Easily portable, these cocktail creations can be transported al la picnic basket for a hot Kelowna summer day at the beach or park.
